Hey Leland! I just have to say, that shirt you designed is AWESOME! You’ve put me into quite a dilemma here… now I don’t know if I want to buy one of those shirts or if I want one of the more expensive memberships to this site…I really can’t get both at this time. About Leland

The third son of Duane ‘Dog’ Chapman, Leland Chapman, 30, is the stand out, heartthrob-hottie of TV’s #1 cable reality show, Dog The Bounty Hunter. Tattooed and lean-muscled, in black, skin-tight tank-tops, Leland sports a straight, black ponytail worn to his butt, yet neatly pulled back, with the sides of his head shaved off, military style. His look appeals to the bad-boy fantasies of his female fans, yet is respectful enough to say, “Bring me home to meet your daddy.” He morphs outward humility and shyness into toughness and bravery when chasing a fugitive. Female fans are eating him up, with Leland chat rooms and topless jpegs circulating the very personal, personal computers in bedrooms across America. Male fans identify with his urban-island intensity combined with compassion and faith.

His mom divorced his dad, Dog, while he was in prison. Until the first time he saw his father, he thought his step-dad was his real dad. He first met his father when he was 8. “I was terrified of him. I refused to call him dad. He was scary and I was ashamed of him.” Leland came to visit Dog and went on a bounty with him for the first time at 9. The first hunt was with his brothers and half-brothers and they were supposed to whistle when they saw the fugitive’s truck. But, he was still too young to whistle, and it turned into a brawl. When Dog finally caught the guy, the fugitive spit in Dog’s face. “My dad said, ‘don’t even look at my kids’ and he spit right back at the fugitive. I couldn’t believe my eyes.” They also did set-ups, “I posed as the paperboy and I’d knock on the fugitive’s door, step out of the way, and then dad would pounce on him.” Leland remembers feeling so bad for the fugitive that he’d have to fight off tears. “The guy was going to jail, and it broke my heart. But I got over it, obviously.”

But, back at home in Colorado as a pre-teen, Leland got in trouble, and his mother couldn’t handle him any more. He was fighting, had brought a gun to school, and had robbed a tourist. At 13, Leland had to move in with dad or go to a boy’s home for juvenile delinquents. At first, Leland again got into trouble with gangs. Dog made him burn all his clothes and music in a bonfire on the front lawn. Then, together they went to Leland’s school and Dog forced all the gang-kids his son was hanging out with, to line up and turn their shirts inside out, to hide their gang colors. He also told Leland he would take him to KMART to buy all his new clothes, “Very humiliating. No one wanted to hang out with me because they thought my dad was spying on them. But I guess it was a good thing, now looking back.”

From all the tough love from Dog, Leland began to have an interest in school and began getting good grades and graduated with Dog making sure he stayed in school. By the time he was 17, he began to train for professional boxing, kickboxing and extreme fighting. He met a local boxer, Sonny, who took him under his wing. In the last decade, Leland has gone on to win the Hawaiian Tough Man competition in kickboxing, The Rage in the Cage extreme fighting competition, and So You Think You’re Tough extreme fighting competition.

Leland has been helping out Dog since the time he finally straightened out at age 17. When he was 21, he opened Da Kine Bailbonds in Kona. Leland sports several tattoos that symbolize who he is. He wears the Native American Phoenix Thunderbird on his neck, a cross on his back, both sons’ names on his right arm, and Hawaiian tribal markings on his left. Between taping episodes of Dog The Bounty Hunter, Leland likes to box, go to the beach, and play with his two sons, Dakota, 12 and Cobie, 7. He shares a close relationship with all three parents: his mom, a retired hairdresser, his step-father, a general contractor, and his father, Dog The Bounty Hunter.
